About Guizhi Fuling Wan
Guizhi Fuling Wan was first mentioned 1,850 years ago as part of the chapter on pregnancy disorders in Zhang Zhongjing’s formula compendium, Essentials from the Golden Cabinet (Jingui yaolüe). It is a classical manifestation of the uniquely relevant Chinese medicine concept of breaking up and removing Blood stasis. The formula is concisely designed and exhibits the trademark symmetry of most classical prescriptions. In the words of a historical commentator, “Guizhi Fuling Wan contains one yang herb (cinnamon twig), one yin herb (peony), one qi herb (poria), and one Blood herb (moutan)”, plus one foot soldier (persica) to directly address the formula’s primary etiology of masses and accumulations in the abdomen. Today, Guizhi Fuling Wan is primarily used for the treatment of accumulations in the renal and reproductive systems of both men and women.
Therapeutic Principles
- Move Blood and transform stasis
